Metal Cable Trunking For Fiber Routing: Secure Cabling Protection For Indoor Optical Wiring

Fiber cable splice closure is a sealed housing designed to protect fiber fusion splices at cable joint points in outside plant networks. In long-distance fiber backbone and FTTH OSP projects, fiber cables need to be spliced together to extend transmission routes. Whether cables are hung on utility poles or buried underground, splice closure blocks water, dust and temperature change to safeguard optical connections. The fusion splice point is the weakest part of the whole fiber line. Once water enters the joint, optical fiber will suffer signal attenuation and even complete breakage, leading to large area communication interruption.

Types of Fiber Cable Splice Closure

Dome type and inline type are two mainstream fiber splice closures. Dome closure is commonly used for pole-mounted aerial fiber; inline closure suits buried pipeline fiber links. Different models support varying fiber core capacity from 12 cores up to 144 cores. Dome splice closure features large internal space, convenient for technicians to arrange splice trays and reserve fiber slack. Inline closure has slim shape, which fits narrow underground pipelines.

Sealing Inspection for Fiber Splice Closure Installation

The sealing process is the most critical step. Carefully install rubber gaskets and tighten bolts evenly to prevent water penetration. Uneven bolt tightening is the top reason for water leakage in splice closure. Arrange fiber splices neatly inside the tray and reserve proper fiber slack. After installation, carry out air pressure leak test to verify sealing performance for buried and coastal projects.

Reliable fiber splice closure reduces outside plant network breakdown risk. We supply various fiber splice closures with standard test documentation.
