What Are The Causes Of Fibre Optic Cable Line Failure?

With the rapid development of communication technology, fibre-optic communication systems have been widely used, from the initial use of long-distance communication lines, to fibre-optic to roads, fibre-optic to buildings and fibre-optic to homes. Fibre optic cable barriers are a major contributor to communication outages. About two-thirds of the statistical barriers are fibre-optic cable barriers. A number of measures are taken to ensure that fibre optic lines are not blocked. For example, in the construction of fibre optic cables, protective measures are taken according to the environment in which they are used. In routine maintenance, a daily inspection system and routine maintenance tests are implemented. Due to the extensive use of fibre optic cable lines and long lines, faults inevitably occur in the course of use. To ensure the quality of communication, immediate repair is required. Accurately locating the point of failure is the main step in achieving rapid repair.

(1) Excavation. The main cause of optical cable failure is excavation. In the process of underground engineering construction, the direction of the underground communication line is not yet understood, and blind construction poses a direct threat to the optical cable.

(2) Technical operation error. Man-made obstacles caused by technicians in the process of equipment maintenance and installation. During the maintenance of fibre optic cable lines, the obstacle is prone to fail to meet the operating specifications. For example, when connecting optical fibres, the optical fibres are scratched due to the negligence of technicians; or when using optical fibres, the bending radius of the optical fibres is too small and does not comply with the specifications: when switching optical cables, the optical cables that are in operation are incorrectly switched and so on.

(3) Other external factors. Fiber optic cable line failure, there are other factors, such as mouse bites the optical cable, resulting in optical fibre breakage; vehicle super-high or overhead cable suspension cable sagging, resulting in the vehicle suspension overhead cable; fire caused by the overhead cable or the explosion of the cable in the building; natural factors such as flooding and lightning has led to the interruption of the fiber optic cable line.

Most obstacles in fibre optic cable lines are man-made. Obstacles caused by natural disasters and the quality of the fibre optic cable itself are relatively minor. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to routine maintenance work and strictly follow operating procedures to avoid human factors causing fibre-optic cable failures.
