What is an optical fiber jumper?
Optical fiber jumper is mainly used to make a jumper from the device to the optical fiber wiring link, with a thick protective layer, generally used in the connection between the optical terminal machine and the terminal box; Optical fiber jumper is widely used in optical fiber communication system, optical fiber access network, optical fiber equipment transmission and local area network.
Driven by the rapid development of optical fiber communication and the expanding demand for various equipment, more types of optical fiber jumpers have been developed and used.
Type of common optical fiber jumpers
① FC optical fiber jumper: The external strengthening method is metal sleeve, tightening method is turnbuckle. Generally used on the ODF side (most used on the distribution frame)
(2) SC type optical fiber jumper: connected to the connector of the GBIC optical module, its shell is rectangular, fastening method is to use the plug and bolt type, do not need to rotate. (Most used on routers and switches)
(3) ST type optical fiber jumper: often used in optical fiber distribution frame, shell is round, fastening method is turnbuckle. For 10Base-F connections, the connector is usually of type ST. Commonly used in optical fiber distribution frames)
LC type optical fiber jumper: the connector connecting the SFP module, it is made of easy to operate modular jack (RJ) latch mechanism. (Commonly used routers)
⑤ MT-RJ optical fiber jumper: Square optical fiber connector with transceiver integrated, one double fiber transceiver integrated.
Fiber jumper single-mode and multi-mode difference
① Appearance: the sheath of the single-mode fiber jumper is generally yellow, and the multi-mode is generally orange or so-called aqua green; In terms of core diameter, multi-mode is generally slightly thicker.
Transmission distance: the transmission distance of single-mode fiber is not less than 5km, generally used for remote communication; Multimode fiber can only reach about 2km, which is suitable for short-distance communication in buildings or on campuses.
(3) Light source: Because the led light source is more dispersed, it can produce a variety of modes of light, so it is mostly used for multi-mode fiber; The laser source is close to a single mode, so it is usually used for single-mode fiber.
④ Bandwidth: The bandwidth of single-mode fiber is higher than that of multi-mode fiber.
⑤ Cost of use: multi-mode fiber allows through multiple optical modes, so multi-mode fiber is more expensive than single-mode. However, single-mode fiber uses solid-state laser diode as a light source, which is far more expensive than the light source equipment of multi-mode fiber, so the cost of using single-mode fiber is much higher than the cost of multi-mode fiber.
How to buy optical fiber jumper?
① Connector type: If the ports of both devices are the same, we can use LC-LC/SC-SC jumper. If you want to connect different port type devices, LC-SC/LC-ST/LC-FC jumpers may be right for you.
② Single-mode or multi-mode: The single-mode fiber jumper uses 9/125um fiber, and the multi-mode fiber jumper uses 50/125um or 62.5/125um fiber. Single-mode fiber jumper is mainly used for long-distance data transmission. Multimode fiber jumpers are mainly used for short-distance transmission.
③ Jumper length: Select the appropriate length according to the distance between the devices to be connected.
④ Jumper material: Fiber jumper can be divided into ordinary type, ordinary flame retardant type, low smoke halogen-free type, low smoke halogen-free flame retardant type according to the outer sheath material. Flame-retardant cables and optical cables should be used for laying cables or optical cables in flammable areas and building shafts; In large public places, flame-retardant, low-smoke, low-toxicity cables or optical cables should be used; Flame retardant wiring equipment should be used between adjacent equipment or between connections.
